It has to be smaller like 50% of the display and it works fine.
Parallels vs vmware linux full#
Also, it does not wrok well when I maximize the VMWare window to full screen on a 24" display. I just updated to the latest version of VMWare and have not seen this happen again yet, but if it does it is a simple workaround.
To fix this all I do is drag the VMWare window and resize it a little and everything updates and works fine again. I noticed that sometimes when loading a new file, the part of the window where the models and drawings does not update. It all seems to work well, it is a bit slow and the Direct3D acceleration option helps a little. I run OSX 10.5.3, VMWare Fusion 1.1.3, Win XP and AutoDesk Inventor 11. However I do hear that VMWare is better for Linux.ĭoes anyone know if Autodesk Inventor works ok on VMWare? We currently use that in Parallels and it works fine but only with the "experimental" shaders support on. I've had to do some tweaking on nearly every platform I've ever run it on. And if you're using Linux you're used to that anyway. Even there you usually just had to do some command line magic in Linux to get it to work. The only real problem I've had with Parallels is running certain Linux distros. (There was one build in version 2 that had some stability issues though) I've run it on three different machines and at least with 3 I've never had any stability issues. Having users do a 2 to 3 step process to move files or to browse folders made no sense when I tried Fusion. Most of my users aren't using it for running Linux VM's, or needing 64-bit capabilities, or needing SMP support.įusion, like many of VMWare's products runs in a "sandboxed" approach, separated from the main OS. * Coherence mode is much more fluid and less choppy than Unity is.Īgain, much of this is based on integration features.
* Fusion drains my battery much faster than Parallels does.

* SmartSelect allows for file types to be opened up either in Mac or Windows * Links Windows My Documents and like folders to respective Mac Folders * Links Windows Desktop folders to Mac Folders Fusion works great for tech types, and for developers needing the extra processor and 64-bit, but for end users, Parallels is slicker in it's integration my end users need the integration capabilities, and Fusion doesn't integrate the same way.Ĭan you elaborate? What does Parallels do that VMW cant'? The problem I had with Fusion was that it "sandboxes" the session.
